Bradmill was established in 1927 in Yarraville, mainly making workwear fabrics, such as overalls and uniforms.
In 1945 the company began producing denim, which led to focusing on supplying major brands like Lee and Levi's with fabrics for decades. In the early 1990s Bradmill became the largest exporter of cotton textiles in Australia under the name ‘Bradmill Undare Group’. In 1998 the factory won an ‘Exporter of the Year’ award. Despite its profitability, poor managerial decisions against market pressure led to the announcement in 2001 that the factory would close. In 2002 the Yarraville site began shutting down. By 2005 less than 100 workers remained at Bradmill’s Yarraville factory. By 2006 the site had shut down completely and been abandoned.
I've been lucky enough to source some of the now deadstock Bradmill denim for this classic 6 panel crown ball cap. This particular denim is medium-heavyweight, with Indigo dyed warp threads and copper weft threads which is sure to age beautifully.
This cap also features stitched eyelets, standard 3” solid style visor, and cotton twill adjustable d-ring strap. These caps also feature a vintage Merrow edged patch from my collection making each cap unique.
Features:
- Deadstock Bradmill denim medium-heavyweight / vintage Japanese Furoshiki cotton underside visor
- Horse hair buckram backing internal front two panels
- Vintage merrow edged patch
- Singer 32-43 oversized stitched eyelets
- Black cotton twill sweatband
- Australian made hbt cotton seam webbing
- Standard 3” solid visor
- Rear adjustable d-ring cotton twill strap
All of my caps are handmade from start to finish by me, using machines from the 1920's-1960's. No two caps are the same and differences in construction are to be celebrated.
